Laboratory Services

to Geothermal Energy

Information on the thermo-physical properties of rocks provides an important basis for the characterization of geothermal deposits. If the storage and transport properties of the subsoil are known, reliable statements on the usable thermal potential can be made. Petrophysical data are needed primarily for model calculations that allow for predictions of the short and long-term behavior of the reservoir.

Our laboratory services include data collection on plugs and drill cores. The latter allows a detailed and at the same time representative parameter determination. The non-destructive core scanning is carried out with a resolution in the mm range and provides a sufficient amount of data to determine statistically reliable data sets.
We measure the following thermo-physical parameters:

  • Porosity, grain and bulk density (buoyancy method and / or gas and solid pycnometer)

  • Thermal conductivity (optical scanner, half-space line source, needle probe)

  • Heat capacity (calorimeter)

  • Natural radioactivity (core scanner) - radiogenic heat production

In addition to the extraction of rock physical data, we provide our expert knowledge for evaluation and interpretation. Our strength lies in the assessment of the transport and storage properties of rock formations.
